I've applied for environmental science and have got an offer form the University of Southampton. I was reading through some reviews and found one from a student who has decided to change courses form environmental science because he felt unmotivated. The review stated that in his first semester he only had 12 hours of lectures and this went to 4 hours a week the following semester
    Is this true?
    I'm getting worried

    Thank you

I don't know about the course specifically, however i wouldn't be surprised.

I don't think any courses have more than 25-30 hours. I was on about 20 hours doing geology - A had a flat mate doing history on 4 hourse. Uni is less about being taught and more about doing it yourself. You basically pay for the course structure and exams.

There shouldn't be much variation on hours in between unis, more on the course itself.

speak to the uni, the ES courses I know of don't do that little, and wouldn't expect an ES course to do less than 12 hours at least, as there is a lot of content.

That 20 hours contact time for Geology, was that spread over 5 days? or were there days that you didn't even have to go into Uni?

That was usually done over 4 days. They timetable it so there are no clashes. Some semesters I had a day with just an hour, one semester I had 9-1 of lab, 1 -2 to change campus (that took an hour) and then 2-6.

It's not something you particularly think about when doing it though tbh

Thats great info, thanks, and really helps alot. I did think about contacting the dept to ask for a sample timetable, but don't think I will need it now, thanks to your info.

    Thanks

Is anyone doing this course? Is it seen as an easy course? is it a worthwhile course?

I'd love some help, thank you
