    Debt in trillions... wow : /

    Would they ever get out of that debt?

    They may lower it, but countries are always in debt. Usually this is maintained at a low percentage of GDP but with the current financial crisis most countries have gone way above this. So no, they may bring the debt down somewhat over time but I doubt they will ever truly get out of it.

    No. When the baby-boomers start withdrawing their pensions in around 2020 the US Government will have even less ways of propping the massive deficit up.

    not in the forseeable future, the US hasnt been a creditor nation for decades [thank you regan] and as the first poster said all countries are at one point or another in debt due to fluctuations in their spending/revenue which need to be maintained.
