Which exam board are you doing it with?

I did WJEC English Literature and it was important for my particular exam to have a really good understanding of all the characters in the texts we studied, so I did a lot of character profiles and key quotes that i'd be able to use really quickly in the exam because I'd memorised them or knew where they were in the book. I also did a lot of work on the context of both texts like the history, society at the time, role of women etc, but this really will vary depending on the exam board and what it is your exam requires you to focus on, as well as your texts

Try getting a CGP book. Regardless of what exam board you are with, it is important to have an understanding of the characters.

I find the CGP book for ''Of Mice and Men'' really helpful. It has pages on all the main characters and the themes throughout. They have guides for pretty much every text at GCSE.

I think for language it can sometimes be helpful to look at a front of a magazine you have laying around and write down what stands out and everything about it. Do the past papers, make sure you've practiced every type of writing (Persuasive, message of complaint etc)

For both English Literature and English Language its important you know basic English grammar and terminology. Make sure you know what a simile is, make sure you know what a metaphor is, make sure you know what alliteration is and personification etc.

    Then you'll be set.
