    A lot of my family is german so i would like to be able to speak German
    I do german GCSE but it teaches you nothing really about conversations etc
    What is the best way to start trying to learn a language, especially German

    Go to Germany, seriously, if anyone is placed in a situation where they actually HAVE to learn to speak a language, it is so much faster than trying to learn by books/CDs/DVDs through your own willpower.
