Several people on here have been talking about maths programmes. Where can I get one from? Can I download one or do I have to buy it? Are they worthwhile? any info would be great!

the most famous ones are mathematica and maple. they cost quite a bit though (~£1000, a lot less if you get the student versions, and a lot more less if you, shall we say, bypass the purchasing process). there should be free ones around, probably gnu stuff for unix machines.

You'll have to buy it, unless you get it off Kazaa

Two of the names I hear a fair bit are Mathematica and MAPLE, used by universities and all that. If your uni says they use a certain package, either get it or hope they give it free.

My uni gives Maple out for free on its site license.

Kazaa. Now theres an idea. I might just have to go search for a maths programme on there. Never thought of that. Only used kazaa for music (and movies)

Careful though, big files tend to eff up in my experience. I've tried Cubase, Final Fantasy 7 and some movies, didn't work. But have a go.

Movies. Now i had a problem with movies. A couple of them you could hear the sound but there was something saying you were not authorised to view it or something strange. can't actually remember. But, well, basically it just wouldn't let you watch them. However, I asked my Uncle, the computer genius, and apparently I needed a programme to watch them. can't tell you the name of this programme coz I can't find it. When I do tho if anyone wants to know what it is.... anyway, this programme, i'm not sure what it does. just put it on the computer and have done nothing eith it since, but now the movies run fine.
