    Hey,

This is because I'm new at my current 6th form, therefore the teachers don't really know me- whereas at my old school (where I did GCSE's) they all knew me very well... also how many references is needed?

    Thanks people.

You only need one reference, but it can be made up of various parts from different teachers. So whichever school you ask to write the reference can talk to the other to get ideas. Your sixth form will be used to writing UCAS references so they might be better to do it - they will also be used to writing references for new students.

Unis might find it strange if you ask your old school and might assume you have something to hide.

You can ask your old school - but remember this is about 'potential to study at University level' which often isnt obvious until you are actually doing A levels. Your old school cannot for instance honestly give predictions for your A level grades - they havnt a clue how you are currently performing.
