    What's the (k+1)th term?

Remember that it is given by

    r(r+1)

You made the same error earlier on today.

Is the k+1th term not K^2+2K?

    No. Substitute r=k+1

Got this far, and i'm unsure about my 'aim for' and (k+1)th term. Also where should I go from here if all is correct?

    Nearly there

The penultimate line doesn't equal the final line.

    I'd write

    3k^2 + 9k + 6 = 3(k+1)(k+2)
