Ok so I'm browsing through the threads and you are all stuck about which halls to chose. So I'm gonna write down about each hall from a student perspective. After feel free to ask questions about anything else.
Clive booth and Clive booth ensuite and post grad
Ok so cb is the main hall of residence at Brookes. It is situated behind headington hill campus and is in a great location to get to every campus at Brookes. This is the most popular hall that everybody selects but it is also rather expensive if you want to go for an ensuite room. Non ensuite rooms normally come with a basin in the room for you to brush teeth and such things. Some rooms in cb do not have them and they r even more discounted. The flats are nice and clean and an average size for a student bedroom. The kitchens are generic and had the same appliances that are in the cheapest hall. 2fridges and 2 freezers allow for plenty of food storage between you all. Normally 1shelf each.
Post grad is brand new and has wifi instead of cabled Internet. This hall is on for post grad students only. This is the brand new section of cb and is really nice.
Intercom system is in operation to let guests into the building.
Cheney is really a rather new hall in comparison with the others. Situated on headington hill it is In Just as a good location as cb. This hall has a 50 week contract meaning you will have to pay for 50 weeks and also pay a deposit. The halls are really nice and the rooms are a great size. Kitchens are new and clean and they have an intercom system. It is also all ensuite.
I lived at crescent in my first year and I had a great experience. Crescent is located off hollow way along with Paul Kent and slade park. It is on the u5 and u5x which takes you to headington and Wheatley. Because of this I do not recommend this hall for harcourt. This hall is the cheapest but it is also old. It is slightly dated and non ensuite. It does have a social life regardless what you might here. People meet with other flats and hang out together. I became friends with everyone in my block.
Paul Kent Is very similar to crescent but much newer. It has both ensuite and non ensuite. The rooms are bright and clean and so I would chose this over crescent hall as it is much nicer. Is more expensive so it all depends on budget.
Based at harcourt hill and is therefore ideal for harcourt students. Many students chose to live at there campus with harcourt and so the students you will be living are likely to be in some of your classes. I have not had the chance to visit this hall as it was still being built when I was there. Not a good location for students at other campuses
Based at Wheatley this hall is the only catered hall. Meaning you do not cook except for the weekend when the cafeteria is closed. This is ideal for those who hate cooking or at Wheatley. The rooms are huge at Wheatley and many come with a guest bed which students use to true there bed into a double. The hall is outdated again though and isn't very nice to look at. Many Motorsport students seem to live at Wheatley. You are within walking distance to village pubs in Wheatley and there is an Asda down the road. The halls come with a mini kitchen for the days when you have to cook. The location does mean you are far away from town for nights and taxis can be expensive.
Dorset and slade.
Dorset house and slade are identical to each other just in separate location. Slade is off hollow way and Dorset is on headington road. Both are stupidly overpriced halls. These are privately managed halls and owned by a separated company not Brookes. Only Brookes students do occupy them though.brand new buildings. Nice furnishings. Just lots of additional costs.
Ok so bathrooms. Sharing a bathroom is not as horrific as you might think. Halls that share provide a cleaner twice a week who comes in and cleans the bathrooms so they won't become grubby. I never had to queue for a shower as there was 2 between 6/7. You generally have your own sink for other uses so they only thing you are sharing is a toilet and a shower. You can select a female only flat ladies if you don't wan to share a bathroom with boys. I was in a mixed flat and it was perefectly fine.
Hope this helps some of you out. Any questions jus comment.
