Kinetics - Maxwell-Boltzman Distribution

Hi!
This is probably a really silly question, but i can't figure out what it means by the 'process' in this question:

4a) Explain the process that causes some molecules in a sample to have very low energies.

I'm just not sure what the process it's talking about is.

Thanks
I'm not sure process is the right word :s-smilie:

The energy distribution described by the Maxwell-Boltzman distribution in a given sample varies because of collisions between the molecules, since collisions cause a transfer of energy.
