I bumped into this abbreviation, "YOLO", and it was so infectious that I started planning using it for normal chit-chats lol.

Have you bumped into some words that are so infectious that it plays in your mind for some time?

#carpediem - I liked the English "Seize the day" so much that I've started to initialise it and use it like yolo

Please don't. I have an inbuilt hate for people who use yolo, swag, hashtag etc. for anything other than mocking.

Of course I'm aware that carpe diem doesn't translate directly to "you only live once" but I was under the impression "you only live once" and "seize the day" both advocated the same message

Society is turned into so much crap recently with all the rubbish slang coming out inspired by tasteless rap and hip hop music, who remembers the good old music like Bryan Adams, Linkin Park, Guns and Roses, Led Zepplin, Carlos Santana, The Killers, The Eagles, etc.

    They don't though.

YOLO means to do something because you can, to have a 'devil may care', hedonistic attitude, "why not?", etc.

Carpe diem means to take decisive action towards a premeditated goal when the opportunity presents itself, to not put it off, "why do tomorrow what you can do today?", etc.

Meh, semantics, obviously YOLO was conceived by those who have a "why not" attitude as you say, but I would've thought different people interpret it differently. Then again, anyone who seriously uses YOLO in normal conversation I doubt will use it in the sense of carpe diem-esque initiative, so I'll give you that. xD
