How much damage could Trident II missiles do if launched..? watch

    • Thread Starter

Im just interested to hear as I couldnt find on Google. Could they cause destruction of a city/country? Obv in reference to escalating Korea situation

    Well actually you can... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UGM-133_Trident_II

apparently the largest nuclear payload of one missile would be equivalent to 1900 kilotons of TNT (4 W88 warheads), whereas the bombs used at Hiroshima and Nagasaki were about 20 kiltotons.

Daily mail showed the effect of a 100megaton bomb (i.e. so what would happen if around 50 out of the UKs 500ish missiles were used at once): http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencete...-app-that.html

They could clearly utterly destoy a country the size of North Korea.

A country the size of North Korea yes. Russia not even close. Plus what if only 1 of our submarines are out of port and silently patrolling the mid Atlantic then they’re out of range for several days. They apparently do move quickly though. It’s a retaliatory weapon only really but I believe we do need it to help diplomacy.
