You should look in to EDI (Electronic Data Exchange), CRM (Customer Relationship Management) and BI (Business Intelligence).

Just think what you couldn't do without modern technology, no internet, no word processing, no email, no computer graphic design, no tablets to carry, no programs for businesses and much more.

For the economy, as well as businesses not being as productive, think about that technology is constantly improving and new technology means new jobs for people (programmers, networkers etc.)

Remote access to data, easier storage of vast quantities of data, easy to search for particular data, data mining... etc.

All of which vastly increasing efficiency and business-customer relations.
