I've been wondering recently whether I drink too much. I'm and 18 year old bloke and I have worked out I drink on average 26 units per week. Is this too much ? How many units does everybody else drink ?

Fluctuates, most of the time I will got he pub a few times a week and half 2-3 pints. Once every few months tend to go a little off the rails and drink like 1 litre+ of sprits and like 12 beers. Go through periods where I will barely drink for a couple of months as well.

Considering the doctors recommend you don't exceed 21 regularly, I wouldn't be too worried. I drink twice a week, 4/5 pints on a Wednesday then a big session on Sunday. Provided you give your liver time to recover you should be fine.

It is a little on the high side yes, and it also depends on how you're drinking it - is it steadily throughout the week? Is it in 1 or 2 binges? Both certainly have their problems.

Plus, if you feel you're drinking too much, you probably are.

I read a study that said if you have a few sober days to allow the liver to recover in between drinking you should be fine

Are these 26 units all in one night? The recommended amount is meant to be evenly spread over the week, binge drinking and then staying off alcohol for the next 6 days isn't healthy according to doctors. But if you go clubbing or whatever that is probably unavoidable.

No, not all in one night. Spread over about 4/5 nights.
