    Hey there,

I'm 177 cm or 5'10'. How tall are you?

Is this considered short or average in the UK?

5 foot 9 is the average.
This is a bit misleading. 5'9" is the average height for a British man but the difference between generations is quite marked. There are as well differences between ethnic groups, though these skew the figures far less than they do in the US (American men apparently being shorter than European men but this owing entirely to East Asian and Latino groups).

When someone says he wants to be average height, he means ordinary among his age group or peer group. For white (or black) men in their late teens or early 20s 5'9" might not be it.
