My application is asking for "relevant" work experience and I'm applying for a taught masters in social and political theory.
I did a short placement at a social services offices for work experience but that was in 2008 :/ the only other work experience I have is cafe and bar work and a bit of volunteering I did at an animal shelter at Uni and a charity shop back home.

Is it not advisable to put bar work etc even if I justify it by writing about it improving my communication/ social skills/ brought me into contact with people from different walks of life etc? :/

    Any help would be appreciated!

If you have not got any relevant work experience then do not mention irrelevant things just to pad out your application form. Remember, it is a one-size fits all application form and work experience sections might be relevant for some courses, but not for others (e.g. humanities). Likewise, some mature students might have extensive work experience to compensate for poor previous grades or no previous study at all.

In all honesty, unless you are applying for a super competitive university, then most of this is completely redundant so long as you have a 2.1 and are self funding. I really would not spend too much time on applications.
