I took logs of both sides to find n which I got to n>4272 (nearest integer).. is this correct?

haha, sorry about that I read the question wrong

    Having bother with this though:

    Find the exact solution to: In(2y+1) - In 4 = 1

    so Loge(2y+1) - Loge(4) = 1

    Loge(2y+1/4)=1

    2y+1 / 4 = e

This is not correct.. any ideas?

    If you mean (2y+1) / 4 = e; why do you think it's incorrect?

my book said it is: 0.5(4e-1)

how do I eliminate the y?

I get y = 0.5(4e-1) when I simplify your original answer, surely you don't have to eliminate y, as that it what you are finding?

If that's the case then I know how to do it

If you're asked to find y, you can say.

    It's 0.5(4e-1)

    Or y is 0.5(4e-1)

    Or y=0.5(4e-1)

    or just "0.5(4e-1)"

I would opt for the one in bold myself, as it's a clear mathematical statement.
