    Hi guys,

I have a huge problem. I booked a room at iQ Student Accommodation starting from September 2013. Considering I'm an international student, I can't pay in instalments only if I have a guarantor. I may not have that sum of money until September, which is obviously a problem. Do you guys think that I might find someone who will agree to be my guarantor so I can pay in instalments?
    Please help me!

No one in their right mind is going to make themselves liable for a stranger's debt, especially when it is of no advantage to themselves.

Yeah I figured this. Yet, I have no idea why on earth do they ask for a guarantor when you are an international student and normally you have no one in UK. I don't know who am I going to solve this, in order to pay my rent in instalments..

Is it possible for you to pull out of going to iQ and live in university halls instead? They're normally just as good, cheaper, and won't have requirements for you to have a guarantor.

Other than that, you're just going to have to start saving.

Well, yes I can do that, even though I'll lose the money I gave them so I can book my room. But do you happen to know if I can stay in university halls during holidays as well? I can't afford going back home every single holiday.
    Thank you !!

How much are we talking about losing? Can you afford to lose that money?

Whether or not you can stay in uni halls during the holidays will depend on the contract. I was allowed to stay in halls throughout the academic year; others are not. If it says on your uni's website that they do not have halls that allow you to stay there for the whole academic year, then send the accommodation office an email to ask if there are options available to international students who cannot go home during the holidays. They may have options available to you that are not widely advertised.

Which uni are you going to?

Well, £250. I don`t quite afford losing this money but I have no other choice.

I already sent them an email and I asked them. Hopefully they will let me stay in halls throughout the academic year. As far as I know, the contract is for 42 weeks and in summer there are more than 10 weeks so I suppose I can stay there throughout the academic year considering I paid for those weeks as well. Honestly, I have no idea what I would have done without you. Thank you again.

I`m going to University of Sheffield..
