To my knowledge you dont really get a 'midwife assistant'. You can work as either a healthcare assistant/support worker/nursing assistant in the mat wards. These are normally band 2 or 3 depending where or depending on qualifications. Ive banked as a nursing assistant on a labour ward and on a post natal ward. On the labour ward I done the re stocking, tidying/cleaning up, making the beds and incubators, doing the menus and handing out the meals, the cleaning up after the birth, assisting women with personal care after they have given birth. On the post natal ward it was pretty much the same but you might be a bit more hands on helping mothers with the babies and education.
