Isn't it that when the light is reflected off the water's surface it is partially polarised thus if a polarising filter is turned at 90 degree angle to the direction if the oscillations of the wave reflected off of the water, extinction is produced ( no light on other side of filter as wave cannot travel through filter)

so basically you'll keep turning it and the intensity of the wave will keep decreasing until your filter is at a right- angle to the wave and no light is let through.
Then as you turn it more intensity increases again etcetera until the filter is in the same plane as the polarised wave thus it gets brighter again and light is let through

What ever it is...you should rush...rush from the moment the paper is given.... don't look back...just rush....just get the gist of the intro or rubric of each question..they usually give dumb stupid crappy intro that has nothing or won't help you to answer. Just do paper as fast as you can...all difficult questions keep for the end

If Monday's Unit 1 is anything to go by, my Unit 2 needs a LOT of work. Yeah - safe to say I'm not looking forward to that one.
Also, on the coursework comment, we asked about ours and were just told that we'd know on results day. Not sure if our teachers are marking them or the board, but either way we're being told nothing.

Yeah it's really scary for me because I'm getting my ENTIRE Physics AS grade this summer. :frown:

Maybe some of the A2 students can tell us what sort of scores they got on their Unit 2 coursework and whether it was near what they expected? So much uncertainty.

You're allowed to improve your coursework? We only got to hand it in once and got that mark as final. I got 38, and would've loved the chance to get 40/40- full UMS would've helped me recover from the BITCHING January paper, which I was 2 marks off an A in :frown:

January Physics was hard. Apparently the re-sit was hard. S1 and C2 were apparently awful. Does anyone think Edexcel are trying to make Physics and Maths harder? It's annoying as they aren't telling us they're doing it, so it's pretty much a waste of time practising past papers that are never going to help us as they aren't any where near as hard as the actual exam; the fact that 65% was an A in January seriously devalues the qualification so I think that whatever they're doing to make them harder should be reversed. There's no way of discriminating between those who worked hard to do the past papers and those who just winged it in the exam.

I've worked out that I need 91 UMS in this exam to get an A overall. Is that a low B? I'm so happy that my coursework pulled me up because I genuinely think they're going to screw us over again :frown:

Was this coursework Unit 3 or are you an international candidate? Coz I know they do something different.

Our teachers are not even marking ours, they've been sent off to Edexcel and we'll get our scores on results day in August :frown: So daunting. That's why I was asking, I wanna know more about how lenient they are with the marking. If you stick to the marking grids, is it possible to get near 40/40?

Yep, I just wrote my coursework and structured it exactly how it went on the mark scheme so it's easier to follow. Some of the things, like why a certain instrument is most appropriate/sources of error, I repeated LOADS as when we did a mock coursework I dropped those marks. I don't actually know which two marks I dropped so I can't really help. All I can say is that I made sure that I followed the mark scheme exactly and repeated some of the more obscure points a lot to stress it to my teacher. I got 38, so obviously it does work as long as you have the mark scheme next to you as you write.

Is the answer something to do with the loudness of the sound. Not entirely sure though.

I guess its because its gets closer to a perfect standing wave .
From the metal wall the amplitude of the reflected wave decreases therefore the amplitude of the standing wave increases away from the metal wall as the difference of the amplitude of the two waves increases. Vice versa when you go closer to the metal wall/sheet.

Better check the MS

What comes in goes out. Kirchhoff first law. So form equations for each answer ...currents in = currents out and then see which one fits the equation given by the question. :smile:
