    Hello,
I have decided I wantto take a course in Mathematics and biology instead. In order to do this I would have to retake AS Mathematics as well as sit A2 Maths, A Level further Mathematics and A Level Biology.
I am/was currently studying (since January) for some ALevel retakes which I was going to sit this summer as an externalcandidate. However I have seriously considered postponing these until thewinter period instead.
The reason for this is because I feel I have taken up toomuch of a workload too soon (I wanted to restart uni asap). I was consideringdoing AS Mathematics (I sat this at college in 2010 so it's just a case of improving my grade), AS Further Mathematics (self taught) and AS Biology (Self taught).
I have had to cancel resits before due to suffering depression but now I feel it’s more of a case of taking on toomany exams and trying to self teach.
However I feel Imay have brought this on myself to some extent as I have been guilty of chronic procrastination and I am also concerned that I may have given myself too manysecond chances.
I feel if I continue to sit these exams a combination oftrying to do too much with very little tuition on top of (though it is my fault) previous procrastination I will fail.
However If I start again in the winter and re do my ALevels over a 2 year period, i fell as though I have given myself too manychances and I may have given myself an unfair advantage over other peoplesitting the same course. Although I do plan on being honest with the universitiesI am applying too when discussing my A Levels.

Unfortunately we can't do exams this winter at my school thanks to Mr Michael Gove. He banned January modules. You may still be able to do them as an external candidate, but look into this and take it into consideration when making any decision. It's up to you ultimately. I would love to postpone some exams, but my school wouldn't allow that.

If you want to study maths and biology but don't have the right A levels then retaking/rushing through A levels isn't your only option for university entry.

I'd suggest going for the resits etc this summer and just seeing how you get on- but at the same time have a look at some other potential routes to university.

You could possibly go to university starting this autumn on a foundation year which would lead to a degree in your chosen subjects.

Or speak to someone at your local college about science based access courses - these only take 1 year and so you'd be starting on a degree in autumn 2014.

Another option which might be worth looking at would be open university/distance learning. They offer entry level introductions and credits towards a wide range of topics - and although it is "self study" like you're doing now the OU are well established and GOOD at helping people manage their study and workload to get the best out of their courses. Plus you'd be studying some of the topics that you'd take at university level instead of retreading some of the A level subjects again so the chances of getting inspired and motivated to study is much higher.

With all these things it's always a good idea to get in touch with the universities that you're thinking of applying to and having a conversation with them about which qualifications they think would be good for your applications and would help give you a good background for the course.

I could possibly cope with doing all my AS exams in the summer provided I started study in September(I would start from starch). I think trying to do 3 AS Levels in half the time (and 2 being self taught) was foolish of me. However I do you think I am putting myself at an unfair advantage by restarting in September? or maybe I was being unrealistic when planning to do my AS Level's in one session

It's not an unfair advantage - everyone else can do it if they want. You do what is best for you.
