"If you have completed resits and been awarded a new grade (better or worse) for an AS or A level, or IB, or anything else, you need to enter BOTH results"

On this page, I believe it says if you resit some of your AS modules, you must enter in your old result, as well as your new one? I always thought if you resit and improve upon your grade, the old result gets discarded and forgotten for all eternity...

Also, if you resit some AS modules and (technically) improve on your final AS grade for that subject, can it be re-certificated after being certificated following the August results? Does your old AS overall grade get discarded? (This links in with the question above)

    Quite confused

You MUST enter all your results, whether or not you later got better grades.

A University has a right to know how difficult you found passing an exam to the required standard in order to judge whether or not you have the ability to study at University level.

If you dont enter all your grades, it is consider fraud. Universities can, and do, cancel offers and withdraw places as a result of exactly this sort of deception.

What about applying in the next application cycle having achieved all the grades you need?

You still have to give all your previous results.
