# S1 Help watch

1. What's a good S1 book to self teach my self? The Edexcel one doesn't have enough examples? Also i have a couple of questions... one being , how do you know when to interpolate? Finally, how do you find Q1 & Q3 ?

It may help if you posted qs 1 and 3
3. No sorry the Quartiles (Upper and Lower)

No sorry the Quartiles (Upper and Lower)
Q1 is the median of the lower half, Q3 is the median of the upper half.
(by half I mean of the dataset)
5. So, is there a formula to work it out?the same way the median is (n+1)/2

Though remember this gives you a value, which you then use to find the quartiles

Ahh, there are a variety of different methods.
They're all acceptable but apparently all different

So you don't round the number, you use the number?

Yes, they will usually ask you to interpolate though, for stem and leaf your likely to get a nice round number

You can interpolate for grouped data, otherwise its just the given value
11. (Original post by 3.1415927)

Depends if the data is continuous or discrete
12. (Original post by TenOfThem)
Depends if the data is continuous or discrete
If it was continuous?

If it was continuous?
Then you can use interpolation for the fractional response
