I'm from Austria, but currently living in the UK, which is the reason I don't want to trust the mail with my passport (as I don't have any alternative form of identification if I give it away).
Is there any way to get some sort of notarized/certified copy of it here (in the UK), or will it only be accepted if it is certified in Austria?
Thank you for your help and sorry if my question seems stupid, but I came across so much contradictory information on that matter that I am absolutely confused by now!

You should be able to get your Passport certified at your embassy in the UK.
Hope this helps,
