I was just wondering, out of pure curiosity, if there is anyone (I'm sure there is) who has applied to a course, got an offer but decided to transfer to a different course at the same uni?

What course were you accepted to in the first place?
What course did you transfer to?
    At what uni?
Are you happy with your decision?

You don't have to answer all of the questions.

My girlfriend applied to Combined Honours in Arts at Durham at first.
She wanted to transfer to History. The only reason she applied to the Combined Honours course was in order to do a mix of History and Politics modules, but she decided she's not that great a fan of Politics anymore, so she attempted to change to straight history.
Unfortunately, Durham rejected her request to change course, and she no longer wants to go to Durham if she has to do the combined course.
She's really quite upset about the rejection, especially after actually being accepted. So yeah, it doesn't always end well...

That's too bad. I actually also applied to Combined honours at Durham. Does she have any other options? Hopefully it will all work out!

    I officially switched in February

I was accepted for Photography and switched to Intermedia Art at Edinburgh College of Art. All art courses share a common first year so it's not been that big of a deal switching and quite a few people do. I was thinking about before I even got here, so it wasn't that unexpected haha But definitely the right choice, I can't imagine not doing intermedia now.

My friend switched from law to art history. Pretty big change there!

Sweating on my results to gain entry to Durham with A*AA being the conditions for entry to study History with A* required in History. Reading earlier links it doesn't look like Durham give much leeway if you just miss your offer, while on the other hand friends with offers from Oxbridge have had letters saying not to get too stressed out if they don't quite make the grades as they'll probably get accepted anyway.

Remember they accepted her for Combined Honours not History and History appears to be one of Durhams most competitive courses (have you seen their post about how many A*'s at GCSE they require for entry). Chances are the History course will have been full long ago.

What did she end up doing? At least with Combined Arts you can specialise by doing 4 of your 6 modules from history, so two thirds of it is history. I had a similar problem in that I was accepted to do Combined English and French but after spending my gap year at a French uni there was going to be an absolutely massive overlap so I pretty much begged to be allowed to change to straight English and they flat out refused. They said to wait until results day to see if there were any spaces left or try to change at the end of my first year. The problem with English is that you aren't ever allowed to do more than 3 modules out of your 6 if you're a Combined student so I'm just praying it pays off haha.
She firmed History and Politics at York, and insured with the same at Edinburgh.
I think her biggest problem with the combined course is the title. On your degree it says that you studied Combined Honours in Arts, Specialising in _____ and _____. I don't think she likes how that sounds to employers.
In addition, when she went to her offer holders open day, she found that whenever she told someone she was studying Combined Honours, people lost interest. It seemed really snobby at Durham because of that, so I think she'll be glad she's not going there now.

Yeah sure, that's why they didn't allow her to transfer. If they let everyone that originally applied for Combined Honours onto the History course then it'd all be a bit messy. I think it just sort of saddened her that she might not have been accepted for History if she had originally applied for straight history, though.
