I have been accepted on a place for an NHS course with a foundation year which I have applied for tuition loan and grant etc with Student Finance.

I was wondering about the Childcare grant.. does the grant cover summer holidays? I am finding it hard to get term time childcare only and will need to pay over the summer to keep my kids place.

Also, for the academic year 14/15 I will be receiving childcare help from NHS. Does this upset the summer holiday period?

    Hi Hopefull,

As you wil be studying an NHS course we will only be able to provide you with a reduced rate maintenance loan as we can't income assess NHS students.

You won't need to apply for a tuition fee loan as the NHS will pay your fees and you'll be eligible to receive a bursary from them too. Unfortunately you won't be eligible to receive Childcare grant from SFE based on the information you've given above.

No, the foundation year isn't covered by the nhs. I have already called Student Finance and started my application.

I am on year 0 of a 4 year degree year 1, 2 and 3 will be nhs.

I called the student finance helpline and I am entitled to the childcare grant during the first year running from September to September, along with tuition fees, loan and grant.

    Thanks :-)
