Maybe for the junk food bit you could draw some examples of food (like burgers, nice greasy fries, chocolate etc.) but as you said in an abstract way. So, instead of just drawing say, a picture of a burger, why not put an arty twist on it like this? http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-asxWuv5Y0U...A6+low+res.jpg
If you're working in a book you could cut out some rectangles of card and draw something like the picture above, so that each piece of card has a different bit of the burger on it but when put together they make up one big picture. If you were looking to make this even more interesting you could draw some bits more 'zoomed in' than others, which would give you some brownie points in the abstract department
Something I did in my Art coursework which was quite effective was using textiles and thread/string, so maybe you could make pictures of some junk food out of various materials? Think out of the box!
As for artists - you could try and research some artists that draw food but maybe in a distorted way. Or, if you were looking at focusing on the effects of junk food on people and really looking at the obesity theme, then an artist like Lucian Freud who paints people may be an idea. Some of his paintings feature quite overweight men and women so maybe you could respond to his work by painting people who like to indulge in junk food a bit too much.
(I know they feature nudity but remember, it's only art!!)
Hope I helped and good luck with your projectLast edited by Mono5; 11-04-2013 at 21:09.

Cheesy chips - my worst enemy. Put on 5 kilos before losing it all thanks to that rubbish!
