I have a conditional offer for my course, providing I can prove my exam results. The official letter states I need to provide my original certificates. I don't have these and so have ordered some certified statements of results.

I called the uni the other day to ask whether they would be happy to accept the '3rd party certified letter' from the exam boards, rather than getting a statement as these are cheaper to produce. The woman said they need to see original certificates or something from the exam board or "maybe if you could get something from your school to confirm what you got".

Does this really sound right? I did question this and she said as long as it has certain information on. I have emailed the uni to clarify but haven't had a response, but wondered if anyone else has proven their results just with a headed letter from their school? It just doesn't seem very official to me.

It usually has to be the certificates. I, personally, haven't heard of a university accepting anything else.

    Here's what's confusing me:

When I found out about my offer and the conditions of it, and realised I no longer had my certificates, I called the uni and explained. I offered them various statements from the exam boards, as well as a letter from my school to confirm my results in the meantime whilst I was waiting for replacement certificates (aka. certified statements). They said anything I had would be good. I sent all of this in and they kindly returned it a few weeks later.

When I spoke to the admissions dept on Monday, after the lady said as above, I informed her that I'd already submitted a letter from my school with results and that this, along with the other bits and bobs had already been returned to me. She said I should check and see why they'd stated it had been returned to me. Now, as far as I was aware, this wasn't definitive proof anyway and so they were just returning it all to me out of courtesy - not because there was something wrong with it.

I have just called up again and I think I spoke to the same woman, who reconfirmed they will accept a letter. Something just doesn't feel right, I'm not entirely sure she's giving me accurate information and I can't get hold of anyone else who I know by name.
