I'm off to uni soon, and it seems that drinking and clubbing are synonymous with student life.

Problem is, my brain literally cannot process what is good or fun about drinking alcohol or going to a night club.

I hate the taste of alcohol, and I hate queuing for ages, paying lots to get in, headache inducing music and hangovers.

Students, what is it you like about drinking alcohol or clubbing? Right now I'm feeling weird and I have no idea how I'm going to socialise at uni.

people don't drink booze for the taste, they drink it for the effects, which can make an evening more enjoyable. It's not popular for nothing.

Go to clubs where they play music that you actually enjoy. It helps. It can
    even be enjoyed while sober!

There are loads of students at uni who don't drink or go clubbing. Some like it and some don't, like everything else in the world. Just stick to what you enjoy and you'll be fine.

Just give it a try if you haven't, and if it's not your thing then it's not your thing, no big deal.

I understand where you're coming from. I do enjoy nights out but sometimes I'll be standing at the bar waiting for, what seems forever, to be served and I'll get this 'why am I even here?' feeling.

I hate clubbing, I totally wanted to mingle with drunk, sweaty, sometimes STD ridden people... I'd rather go for a casual drink with mates or go do something much more fun.

Annd what about some nice pub with some background music with your best mates talking about football or whatever you feel like with some beer/juice/tea whatever you like? It's not clubbing or getting wasted. It's socializing anyway. To be honest it's what I do, and my socialisation it's pretty good

I actually went clubbing sober for the first time in January. I couldn't believe how desperate all the drunk people looked. Old men trying it on with young girls, girls getting grabbed and molested...... I had such an awful time! I've given up that lifestyle now. Staying at home on a Friday night with a nice book is much more enjoyable

Find me a nightclub specialising in Italian comic opera and I will eat my proverbial hat

I'd personally join some societies when you get to uni so you can meet people who share your interests

I'm at uni and I don't drink much or go out clubbing, it's fine. I see people in lectures and so on, and I do the pub quiz every week with my friends, and there's a group of us who always go to the pub on Friday evenings, which is very civilised.

Alcohol can help you loosen up a little socially. You don't need to drink yourself to oblivion to have a good time. Clubbing can be good or bad depending who your with.

You don't actually need to do any of those things at university if you do not want to.

In many universities with a majority non-Anglo-Saxon student body there are numerous other forms of more popular entertainment/social activities.

I don't drink or go clubbing either. You'll still have fun whether you do or not, there's other/better ways to socialise

I don't like clubbing. In fact, I think it's overrated.

    I don't drink much.

But what I don't like or don't understand is the pressure to go clubbing all the time and get wasted and have one night stands. If you don't do those thing then people thing you are strange or uptight, even if you socialise in other ways.

The best thing to do is to try to make friends how don't club and don't drink. There are other ways to socialise.

I'm not going to lie to you guys, I know about 10-15 students that don't drink at uni (mainly muslims) and they all struggle to integrate, including me. Every 9am lecture it's the same thing, all the drinking students talking about which clubs they went to last night and the crazy stuff they did, which don't get me wrong is fine, but if you don't drink you will get left out of the conversations.

I wish people understood there are different ways to socialise.

I hate clubs with a passion. Just do what you wanna do, I go to raves with a different group of friends instead and literally they have been some of the best times of my life. Only clubs that have compared have been in foreign countries (ie BCM )

If you don't drink then fine. But don't go round trying to find friends on who likewise don't like a hobby/interest you don't like as well. Don't go round trying to find friends who don't drink, go and find friends who share the same hobbies for example if you like swimming join the swim team.
