I was wondering if current or previous students could give information on how the teaching year is split? Like is your time off like school holidays , are they around the same times etc? I know some universities for example have a really long summer from may - september. I was wondering how sheffield hallam splits semesters?

We just recently had a two week Easter break, though you have projects running through that time.

My last hand-in for this academic year is in may, then it goes all the way til the first lesson which is somewhere in September.

So pretty long holidays. However, if you hand in your work early, for example if I handed in all my projects now, the only things I had left to do study wise would be a lesson on the friday and a few stray presentations.

It all depends on your course, the teaching content of your classes and your work. I'd say roughly though, for summer - May > September.
