Select (modelling agency)

I was wondering if there is anyone on here who is with the agency, or who has gone into any agency for a 'walk -in'. I have been spotted by a modelling agency before and loads of people tell me I should do modelling and I do want to modelling but im nervous about the process of a 'walk-in' if anybody has done this can they please tell me what happened and how it went. Thankyou.

I've never done it myself, but as far as I'm aware, you just need to go in to see them wearing no or minimal make up with photos (I think full length, close up and bikini if possible) so that they can see how you photograph. They prefer non professional ones with you as natural as possible. They'll probably take a few polaroids of you to see how you photograph on the spot and may take some measurements.

wear flattering clothes and make sure you've had plenty of sleep. it's fine to wear make up if you want.

take a snap shot of your face, and one where they can see your figure.
They will take polaroids of you and pass them round the bookers to reach a decision.

Select have a bit of a reputation for being a bit cut throat. Personally, i wouldn't go with them because they're so big. In the large agencies its easy to get brushed aside or forgotten about.
Are you planning to model full time?

I would approach a different agency if i were you. (but not Models1 as they're appalling - unless you're a guy)

remember, who ever you go see - if they say no, there are a lot of decent agencies out there, so don't give up too soon.

Nevs is apparently very good for a commercial look, Storm for a more edgy look (VERY competitive though).

gona need to pick to decide whether you're modelling quality.............

i was with storm they're really nice! i was spotted but it was the same as a walk in when i went to see them just at a different time. they take a few polaroids of your face and a full length give you a cup of tea and then go into a room and talk about your photo's which is a weird feeling really

I'd give them a go first theyre really cool about school stuff not pushy at all. and they're smaller so you get looked after

So, I dont necessarily need to bring in the polaroids because they will take them, and when they took the pictures did you have to change your clothes and did they take any bikini shots of you?

Thanks everyone else for your information.

nope went in a cardi and jeans i was young back then and i really didnt care dont think they do either and no, no bikini shots! how scary would that be wear something figure hugging theyre good at seeing whats underneath everything and past make up etc.

im not sure about the polariods i guess it would be helpfull to them but i dont think its going to go against you if you dont. they already had the ones theyd taken on the street so im not sure

Oh ok then, i dont wear make-up anyway (apart from mascara) so that's ok. How old was you when you were spotted and what type of modelling jobs did you get (sorry if im asking too many questions). Storm - thats the agency Kate Moss is with init.

Are Storm really not that big?

I used to be with Models1 but they're massive and too favouritist and cliquey.

I moved to Premier and got a lot more work. i loved them and will probs go back with them when i move to London - plus in future faces you get a pink book  which was a nice change from black or dark grey.

Premier are very good. I think they've got slightly bigger since i left.
I might bear Storm in mind if I'm not happy with Premier.

I also started modelling at 14.

Good luck with it all.

:yy: I had a walk in at Models1. And all they want is that you know your stats, Have a head shot (non professional, as someone mentioned earlier) and a full body shot. They like to see what they haev to work with, not what someone elses idea of gorgeous is.

I was told by storm that Premier, Models1 and Select all look for the same sort of girls. Storm is a bit different which you might notice when you walk in. Thay are who signed Kate Moss, and they are quite a big agency.

The look that is popular with select is the traditional beauty. Like the english rose and the Classic Blondes. Not glamourpuss. Just Classic. Freckles are good.
While I was in Storm, a few girls walked in and they were practically shoved back through the door they came in. So it can get quite cutthroat.

Obvious things are make sure you have a good complexion, Teeth and Hair. And give up smoking if you smoke. It really dries out your skin on camera. (not a good look) Before I went, I got one of those lovely face buffer things. (Little electric contraption thing that goes round in circles and takes of dead skin cells, and reveals a nice bright complexion). They are only about £20. Mine was from Phillips. But don't use it the night before, Use it beforehand to make sure it doesn't give you a skin reaction, or a chapped face. (Also not a good look).

Also most of the agency close at 12 noon. So make sure you get there bright and early, Just incase you don't get aywhere, you can try the other agencies, which are all quite close together. Instead of having a wasted journey. GOOD LUCK.

My friend is with models1 and when she first started she was getting jobs everywhere, do you think I should go to a walk-in for premier instead of select, Exoskeletal?

I don't think I could go for a walk-in for storm, if they just get 'shoved out the door' for not having the right look, but I heard Storm model scouts will be in H&M soon scouting people so I might go and see if i get spotted by them.

I want to go for walk-in with select because they seem to be a smaller agency so their won't be as much competition to get on to their books will there?

Thankyou for everyone wishing me good luck by the way.

it does appear that Select are a little smaller than Storm.

Models1 seriously forget to promote their girls because they just have so many, also I've had clients complain to me about the bookers being disorganised and lazy, and the clients went onto say they're really glad I'd moved to Premier.

Plus, Premier always paid me. Models1 didn't for years! but i was 14/15 and didn't know any better.

how old are you angel1607?

I loved Premier. the day i joined they got me EIGHT days of work booked. granted a couple were fittings, but hey it was fine by me and a great start.

The booker (sam) on future faces is such a sweetheart, really nice and helpful and encouraging. i never got that kind of relationship with Models1.

however if they don't think you're right for them (or they may already have someone too similiar) do try Select.

Take2 are an amazing agency also. really good. but they only take on about 7 girls a year and are very very picky, prefering more interesting and unconventional looking girls.

Next could be worth a look, they also have agencies in USA, Milan, Paris, Brazil, all over the world, so easy travel if you want it.

IMG are very big, a supermodel agency. I girl i know just joined them.

Nevs and Bookings and FM are a little more commercial, so if you're more "typically pretty" than "odd looking" they'd be worth a shot.

now i'm intrigued! wanna PM a photo of you? could help me reccommend you a specific agency.

where in scotland do scouts look?

Reply 15

Exoskeletal im 17 years old, thanks for all your advice its really helpful, I don't have a picture of me, but i'll try and get one to PM you.

Reply 16

Hey,
I recently went to London to go to the agency's and tried out storm it was awful all the models looked the same and were nasty they took one photo on a phone
And quickly told me no
I then tried select and let me tell you how lovely they are I waited for one hour whilst they talked to other people before a photographer came up and took photos the next day they called saying they were interested and to come back in a few months
It's scary but select is the best one to try good luck xx

Where there a lot of other models there who walked in to get scouted or models who were already with the agency ( talking about storm )
