I'm going into third year in September and want to do something useful/exciting this summer. I was thinking of volunteering in Thailand at an orphanage.

Does anyone have any advice or experience of volunteering in Thailand or an orphanage in Asia?

I'm thinking of booking it through PoD or RealGap.

I haven't volunteered in Thailand myself, but I have a few friends who have volunteered there, and in other South East Asian countries. One organisation that I would recommend is the Karen Hilltribes Trust. I've heard a lot of positive things about them, and whilst, in recent years with voluntourism on the rise, I think they have slightly tried to appeal to this, they are very much still an organisation dedicated to their work, rather than the volunteers they facilitate.

Because of this, they don't charge an arm and a leg (I think 8 weeks is £500, and this includes your accommodation/food in the village).

By the way, I don't work for them, but I greatly considered volunteering with them last year (but ended up going to Nepal instead!)
