laxatives are very very bad for you hun. i know you feel you need to be in control but please try to stop taking them, and also being sick will do bad things to you too. i know you may want us to tell you how to be sick etc, but this is by no means a pro ED site and i doubt you will get many people telling you that kind of thing

Laxatives
Laxatives are used to relieve occasional constipation. There are currently numerous and various kinds of laxatives and are widely available at any local drug store or pharmacy. Sadly laxatives are frequently advertised with little or no mention of short or long term side effects laxatives can cause. Many people take them without sufficient information. Prolonged use of laxatives, especially stimulant laxatives such as cascara, senna (sennosides) and bisacodyl, intensifies and perpetuates the condition for which they are used. The bowel becomes atonic and dependency is established. Overuse may cause electrolyte disturbances with symptoms of vomiting and muscle weakness.

Electrolytes are minerals like potassium and sodium that are dissolved in the blood and other body fluids. They must be present in very specific amounts for proper functioning of nerves and muscles, including the heart muscle. If laxatives and enemas upset this balance, it can result in tremors, muscle cramps and spasms. In some cases cardiac arrest (heart attack). The heart stops and unless the person receives immediate emergency medical treatment the individual will die. Vomiting can also be a culprit in upsetting this balance.

Laxatives and enemas remove required fluids from the body resulting in mild or severe dehydration. Dehydration can lead to weakness, blurry vision, fainting spells, tremors, kidney damage and in some cases can result in death. Severe cases of dehydration will require medical treatment as simply drinking fluid may not hydrate cells and tissues quickly enough. It is important to get medical attention immediately to prevent organ damage or death.

There is a protective mucus that lines the colon. Laxatives and enemas strip away this protective mucus leaving the colon vulnerable to infections. Enemas can stretch the colon and over time it can lose muscle tone resulting in the colon not being able to generate muscle contractions necessary to move fecal matter out of the body.

Laxatives irritate intestinal nerve endings and after prolonged use of laxatives, the nerve endings may no longer respond to stimulation. The individual must now take larger amounts of laxatives to produce bowel movements. The individual has become "laxative dependent" and without them may not have any bowel movements at all.

Laxative abusers may have more problems with irritable bowel syndrome , rectal pain and gas. Users may also be at risk for bowel tumors which may be benign and cancerous.

Laxative abusers may go through episodes of constipation and diarrhea which both can be painful. People who abuse laxatives can end up in a constipation-diarrhea vicious cycle in which they are always treating symptoms.

One of the most fatal dangers of laxative abuse is the risk of death. If this risk doesn't scare you, I'm not sure what will. Laxative abuse can upset your electrolyte balance and can damage muscles and tissues surrounding the heart. The heart can stop beating and without quick medical intervention, the individual can die. The severe dehydration by the use laxatives can also lead to death. At times we think "it won't happen to me" however if you are abusing laxatives, death is a possibility and risk you are taking and the reality is - it can happen to you.

You should really avoid throwing up whenever possible. Stomach acid is vicious. It eats away teeth and makes them ugly. It eats away at your esophagus and sphincter valves. Over a period of time, throwing up will disable your upper digestive system as thoroughly as laxatives will disable your lower digestive system. It also puts terrible strain on heart and head, and can cause dangerous electrolyte imbalances.

I know you may not fee ready to recover yet (if youdo then please visit your GP) but whatever you do please stay safe

why do you want to loose weight that badly?

at a guess i'd say its something to do with her eating disorder...

The bast way to lose weight is a good, balanced diet and exercise. This is the only healthy way to do it and the only way that isn't going to have negative repercussions on your health in the future.

Laxatives only really start to work when everything in the food has been absorbed already.

it's sounds to me that you're in a very weird position. you seem to recognise your own eating disorder yet don't want to do anything about this. This is something i can really relate to. Uni could go one of two ways for you. you may see it as an opportunity to skip meals etc and spiral downwards, or for me i found it a positive thing as it meant that i was able to fully control my meals and portions, i found that i was willing to eat as long as i didn't feel i was being forced. However my background was a bit of an odd situation and thus my reaction to uni probably wouldnt be the same as other ED sufferers.
I feel that you should really confide in someone, your parents perhaps. they clearly love you and want the best for you - i know it's hard but you have to realise they are not stupid and they WILL notice when you lose weight (which since you are only eating salad and excercising alot you are likely to do very soon) and it will destroy them - i know it did mine!
Or do you have a friend you could turn to?
the first part of your story - ie being caught out by your parents and forced to gain weight - is very similar to my own (except that mine went a little strange as my sister developed a severe eating disorder which affected me in strange ways) i really do emphasise and understand your situation and if you would like to pm me to talk i would be more than happy to give you any advice etc that you need.
I hope that you choose the right path for yourself - remember you can always take another year out and sort your life out - but remember that whilst you have an eating disorder it is very difficult to move on in your life.

Darling, all you did was switch from Anorexia nervosa to Bulimia nervosa. You need help, you are killing yourself. Go to your doctor, your parents, anyone you trust. They will help you find helathy alternitives to keep weight off. It is important that you do this immeadiatly, you are serioulsy damaging your body. You are loosing bone mass by the minute and you body will begin to turn on itself and eat muscle tissue to get energy. I can not stress enough that you need help, please help your self and talk to someone.

I also suffer from eating disorders - have done since I was ten.. and I know from experience that laxes don't really work..they feel like they do, but actually they only get rid of water weight.. so, just no point in bothering really, I have no real advice to give because I am still screwed also.. but good luck x

Please stop with the laxatives. It may seem glamorous to lose weight etc. but it is NOT glamorous to have to have a colostomy bag and to be continually crapping yourself.....which is what will happen if you continue.Your body will get used to having laxatives and won't be able to function without them.

Anorexia is like masturbating and smoking
you can do it but you probably dont want to
