Hi there, I recently posted a thread asking about life for unmarried couples in the RAF and am unsure of the best way to pose a subsequent question, hence why I am opening a new thread.
I'm wondering how things work post-IOT if you are in a marriage. I am applying for ABM and am wanting to know how living arrangements work after you complete IOT and go to Boulmer for branch training. If you are married or become married can you move into married quarters immediately?
As far as I can see the recruitment people are loathe to display such information anywhere!
    Any help would be appreciated.

Pretty swiftly; I was married very soon after graduation from IOT, and moved into quarters very soon afterwards - my next posting wasn't for two months after the event so we were in no huge rush. IIRC (this was several years ago, and yes, we are still married) you can apply before the big day itself for your first quarter, so you can move in ASAP.

My friend got married two weeks ago, got back from his honeymoon the other day and moved into their quarters the next day. It does completely depend on availability though!

Also, it depends on the duration of your training course. It might not be worth dragging your other half to a wild and remote part of the country (Boulmer) for a few months only to be posted elsewhere at the end of it. Phase 2 training is a big demand on time, both learning and socialising and often best done as a singley.

My advice is not to rush into marriage upon joining just to be together. The Forces takes far more of you than any other job, it messes you about quite a bit and is far more of a strain on a partner who is forced to move every couple of years than the one serving. Taking a person from their home town / city and placing them in an alien environment where all local friends are temporary and work might not be easy to come by is hard on them. I would give it until the first tour before thinking about marrying and moving. Plan any earlier and failure of the plan is more likely (mate planned wedding 2 weeks after IOT graduation, got re-coursed, put wedding back 6 months).
    Get through OASC first!
