Here is a very interesting heat map depicting economic freedom on a world map http://www.heritage.org/index/heatmap.
The most free countries are those depicted in light green, the most planned economies are those depicted in dark red. Now there are some obvious suprises such as Scandinavian economy's ranking as some of the most free economy's in the world, for example Sweden is ranked 18th on the index for economic freedom, Germany below her at 19th.
Also if you apply the Brent line to this map, generally the most economically free countries are north of the Brent line, what relevance does this bare to ideological debates over free marker vs planned economy's and left vs right as whole?

I suppose we're free compared to North Korea, but not half as free as I would like.

    Our fiscal freedom is abysmal.

The UK is ranked 14th on the world index, France is ranked 45th(ish) - might be 44 or 46. Interestingly Hong Kong whose economical ideology is a product of the British Empire is ranked 1st. I'd suggest you root around this area of the site more, the analysis of each economy is rather interesting. Especially the research produced on what many would call socialist economy's the Scandinavian Economy's are all depicted as being far more free market than some southern European country's.

Jesus, look what happens when you click on freedom from corruption. Seems like we're living in an oasis on that one. NZ is the place to be, I think.
