I am currently at university studying education, however I am wanting to transfer to a different university as I am not enjoying the course at my current university. I have ideas of starting my own clothing business and therefore, I am wondering whether to transfer to a degree in business of some sort such as business management, rather than education as I feel more interested in this as a future career. However, I am not sure whether teaching would be a more secure job as there are lots of risks with setting up a business. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks.

Personally, I would say that a business degree wouldn't be necessary. You can learn a lot just through experience and given that you want to start your own clothing line, a degree in fashion or design may be more useful (unless you're planning on running a retail store and not create your own products).

Many courses will allow you to take a module in business for extra credits too so you can definitely look into that. Universities also have Enterprise / Entrepreneur societies that will host regular courses on stuff like pitching, negotiations, business planning etc.

No need I have one and I learned more on a btec course than my degree in business. A degree is not needed for someone who wants to start a business atall

I agree with Vulpes. A lot about running a business can be learned on the job, so to speak, or with the help of people of the kind of people who help guide start-ups. I think a lot of it is common sense anyway. I would also suggest studying something else and then you can use those expertise to run a good business.

I've spoken to some girls and guys at my college that do business studies, I don't go to a top level college but the college that I'm doing my a levels there are lots of people doing Btecs, I asked some of these guys and girls what they'd like to do after they complete their two year and most of them where uncertain about what they would like to do, some said they'd like to start a business but go to uni and get a degree.

Im not saying that a degree in business is bad, but in some of these low ranked uni's the requirements so low. A business degree in uni's as such is just wasting money and time. If you have that idea of a business you will find ways to achieve it. Going to uni and getting in debt before you've even started a business that not viable.

What I would say is Finish your degree in 'education' along side it start up your business, and push the idea.
