Is there a way to get funding for a second degree or is it practically impossible to change your career unless you're filthy rich?

The NHS sponsors many degrees in the health field, and that's regardless of whether you already have a degree. But as far as the standard Student Finance goes, there's no funding for a second degree. I've not come across any uni-based scholarships which are targetted at people changing careers. You might find that some emplyers will sponsor a second degree, although of course that depends on you being able to get an entry-level foot in the door of your new career.

You could try doing something from the OU? You can study as you work and the modular nature of the courses allow the costs to be spread out. An OU degree is respected and from what I've seen of friends' coursework, is no less academically rigorous than a brick-based university.

If you go in to medicine, dentistry, social work - anything NHS funded then yeah you can get another degree funded.

If you want another degree that isn't NHS funded then no you can't get funding, the only option would be to study part time and pay for it yourself. Many universities offer 0% interest on paying in instalments these days as well.
