Wouldn't this solve the whole issue of goals or no goals. If the ball doesn't hit the net, it's no goal. Simple.

If the ball crosses the line it's a goal. It's that simple. The net is merely to 'catch' the ball

The net often hangs in vastly different ways so it is a retarded proposition. It is only even there so goalkeepers don't have to run miles to fetch the ball when someone scores, probably the least fun bit of jumpers-for-goalposts football. Also all other football rules are defined according to the various lines on the pitch. As far as the rules are concerned nothing exists except for the playing surface and its lines.

That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.
How it is not simple that its a goal when it goes over the line?
Sure its sometimes hard to tell but that's why they're developing goal line technology.

According to the Laws of Association Football, there is no actual requirement to have a net (possibly rendering the OP's assertion impractical):

'Nets may be attached to the goals and the ground behind the goal, provided that they are properly supported and do not interfere with the goalkeeper.'

Let's just go back to having jumpers for goalposts like we did in school and have arguments over every single goal.

    "YEEESSSSSS 1-0 you c*nts"
"Mate that hit the post, it rolled over Jimmy's blazer"
"Aye but it rolled over the inside of it so that's a post-and-in"
"Shut up you utter cretin, it hit the post"
    "Bullsh*t, you must be blind!"
    "Aye well you smell"
    "So does your mum"

    Repeat ad infinitum.

    Ahhh the good old days.

The net is only there to retrieve the ball, otherwise it would go miles past the goal line.
