Is anyone familiar with what happened in the year 1601 within England. I have googled it but its not much help as it gives me years before and after 1601 whereas I specifically need events from 1601.
i.e. religion, monarchy, politics, literature, art, authors etc.
    Whatever was popular in 1601.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I think you'd be best doing research on Elizabethan England as a whole.

    Shakespeare.
Purcell and Tallis were big in Elizabethan times as well.

You have the Essex Rebellion, where Robert Devereux rebelled against Elizabeth I. More informally this was when secret discussions between Robert Cecil, advisor to the queen, and King James VI of Scotland's advisers about his succession to the throne of England began

The first printed reference to coffee in English appears in W Parry's book about Anthony Sherley's travels.

The first English spice fleet set sail from Woolwich under the command of James Lancaster.

Queen Elizabeth I put the Earl of Essex on trial for his failure in Ireland and subsequent rebellion. He was beheaded later in the year, aged 34.

    William Shakespeare's Twelfth Night.

Purcell wouldn't be born for more than 50 years and Tallis had been dead for 15 years. Therefore neither of them contributed a lot to 1601.

The Poor Law and Rates (local government taxes) were created in 1601.
