the order of classification is kingdom, PHYLUM, class, order, family, GENUS, species.
genus is the first part of the latin name for an animal, and is shared by all closely related species.
a phylum is a sub-section of a kingdom, e.g. in animalia (a kingdom), some of the phyla are; mollusca, arthropoda, chordata and annelida.
hope this helps, it was all that was in my textbook
