It feels pretty effortless to be honest, I don't feel like I'm doing exercise when hooping. I also use a 3lb weighted hoop which makes it easier to hoop. Should I switch back to using a light hoop?

If it doesn't feel like you are doing anything then it probably isn't much better than plain walking. Maybe it is even less energetic since you may well move less.

That said, if you actually enjoy it, then do it.

Measure your heart rate just after finishing the exercise. A good cardio exercise will raise it to approximately double your resting rate (that's a very rough approximation).

I dont think its suppose to feel like youve took much effort, apprently its supposed to be good for toning the stomach though. I borought a weighted hoop a few years back but couldnt get the hang of it.

Basically with hooping you really only get out as much as you put in. If you just stand there and do nothing but rock backwards and forwards then nothing much is going to happen for you. If you engage your core muscles, speed up and move around/dance loads to good music you'll be sweating in no time. I do think that to get real benefits you need to develop a certain level of skill.

I know that when I hoop regularly I notice a difference in my core, definitely less flabby around the midsection. Been hooping for around a year and a half now.

This youtube vid is a good example:

Simple answer: No. Go out and actually train, if its easy then its not going to work!

If it gets your heart rate up and you do it regularly, then yes it will help. It won't be as effective as, say, running or swimming (which use far more energy), but it's much better than nothing, and if you enjoy it enough to keep yourself motivated then great!

If you do it hard, fast and for a longer period of time then yes!
