    1. What if a voltmeter of infinite resistance is connected IN SERIES to a resistor? 2. What exactly does a switch connected in parallel to something do when it's closed?

Any ideas of your own? In the first question, what would happen if any component of infinite resistance were placed in series with a resistor? Make it simpler to start with if you like - what would happen if a component of infinite resistance was the only component in a circuit, just connected to a battery?

There wouldn't be any current in the circuit, I suppose?
