    What is the significance of fehlings or benidcits solutions?

    Fehling's solution tests for aldehydes. A positive test will oxidise the aldehyde to a ketone.
    Benedict's solution tests for tests for sugars. A positive test will show a colour change of blue to brick red.

    Since compound Q does not produce positive tests for either solutions, it is not an aldehyde and it is not a sugar.

    Yeah that's what I meant. It is disgusting that I am a Chemistry student and I got that wrong. I'm just going to go and cry in a corner... :ashamed:
