I need some help with this prom dress i want to buy as i don't know if this dress will suit me as I'm very small (4 ft 11) and overweight and i don't want it to look unflattering. Also i would like to know which colour i should have the dress in. I have light brown hair, green eyes and I'm quite a pale skin tone if that is any help.
Here is the prom dress:

I think since you are only 4ft11 that you should not order a long dress online. The dress might be way too long for your height as the models in the picture look very tall (i made this mistake when i was ordering my Prom dress from ebay
) Maybe you should look for a 3/4 length dress like these:

There is a custom made option on the prom dress which is a bit more expensive so it should hopefully fit. I like the prom dress on the third link with the bow, another safe option to think about as I tried a knee length dress on in my town's prom dress shop to have an idea of what type of dress i was looking for and it went down to my feet
. The only thing i'm worried about on both dresses is if the dress looks really cheap and not like what other people are wearing?

Hey! I totally agree that the long dress could be too long and the investment will not be worth while... have a look in this link... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2810936263...84.m1555.l2649
Its a gorgeous dress and you can alter shape through out evening, It will be very flattering and I believe you could wear it even for every day, just throw in some every day shoes or even military boots for a contrast and it will always look a million dollars regardless of the occasion even in 10 years.
Good Luck!! -

that third dress down? i bought it for my prom in 2011, bad bad idea DO NOT DO IT! it looked cheap and nasty and ended at my calves i'm 5ft 5 btw, it's horrible, i've never worn it, might just give it away now :/
Seeing as you are pretty short i'd go for a shorter dress but you're also overweight the longer dress might be more comfortable for you, i'd watch the strapless dress though so you're not exposing any boob/armpit creases maybe get a nice scarf to go with the dress. -

Thanks for the warning, i was debating between the two dresses but now will stay well clear of that dress. I'll have to try on the dress and if there is a boob/armpit crease i will have to get a scarf to cover it. I've looked on ebay as i have a budget but most of the dresses are ball gowns which would look stupid on me because I'm short and most of the longer dresses don't have a custom made option so it wouldn't fit properly + most the other dresses look really tight fit which would unflattering as I'm overweight. Guys have it easy haha

you could always get a dress and let it alter at home. it's better anyway since it's always to alter a dress you have actually on.
What kind of budget have you yourself? I hardly believe that you'll be lucky with a dress for 38 pounds... It will most probably be scratchy and look cheap. I'd go for a dark grey one if I were you (not as dark as black) and keep it as simple as possible! You can do a lot with accessories which will make your whole outfit bette-looking.
Are there any online online stores you like shopping at? I might be able to pick one for you there. -

I had a similar problem for my prom - I'm only 5'0"! I'd definitely suggest a short dress too, and dressing it up with accessories; e.g. for my prom I had a short black dress, plain satin with a bit of netting, and I added red heels, a red clutch and a big red rose corsage. Try looking in TK Maxx for something affordable - I've been lucky there before. Have you thought about a blue or green dress? It sounds like it would suit your colouring. Hope you enjoy the prom

the blue or pink one, if you are going to order it online, i know someone really well who is a little over weight and the looked a million dollars (or pounds
) in a 3/4 and they are your height, but your look great in whatever you wear.

I don't think you should go for any 'traditional' style long or short prom dresses, they can't be worn again and ca end up looking really cheap and tacky even though so much money has been spent on them. Try looking at long dresses in somewhere like Coast or Monsoon have some really nice dresses in the sale. I bought my prom dress from Monsoon and I plan to wear it again and again.
Also I'm a similar height to yours, wore a long dress with heals and it looked fine (it wasn't strapless though) and I still think it looks elegant. -

I think a knee length dress would look good. I'm quite short (5'3") and overweight and long dresses do not suit me at all
I also bought something similar to the third dress from ebay and it was hideous in real life so wouldn't recommend
This is similar to the one you like but short.

Thanks for the advice
. I don't want to buy anything instore as the dresses are too expensive, most of the shops i looked around was around £250 pounds. I'm willing to spend to around £70 but i was looking on ebay because they tell you the measurements for each size so i am unlikely to get it wrong
