Need help on question 10 thanks

If a^x = b^y,

then x log a = y log b

and if a^x = (ab)^(xy)

then x log a = xy log ab

such that log a = y log ab

therefore log a = y log a + y log b

it follows that log a = y log a + x log a

finally 1 = y + x
