Recently I've been battling with depression and decided to expel my feelings onto paper to make myself feel a bit better. Seeing as I've written it, I may as well ask some of you what you think of it.

Alone, on my own, drowning in the dark.
It's cold, it burns, creating a deep scar.
Upon me, my entity, leaving this ugly mark.
Like a blade through my mantra, tearing my soul apart.

I sit in here in this silence,
    It's screaming in my head,
Like a beast hungry for violence,
    Leaving me for dead.

Dealing with this pain, it's destroying me,
Killing off my heart and soul; personality,
Dying on the inside, burnt to the third degree,
Transforming me into this dark monstrosity.

Fading to the black, into the thin air,
Because all I keep on thinking is do people even care?
I used to be a prescence, but now I'm like a ghost,
If at all, does anyone miss me more than most?

Yet I know deep inside, the problem lies with me,
A demon to myself, yet I'm too blind to see,
That the solution to my downfall, is in the hands me,
Prove it to them boy, show the world what you can be!

So when you feel alone, take a look up at the stars,
Breath deep, think clear, removal of those scars,
Feel the presence of your angels, watching over you,
Because tonight, it's time for your soul to shine through.

So when sitting in cold darkness, I know now what to do,
Thinking back to happy times, all I see is you,
That's all it takes, a simple pleasure; reignite my spark,
Now my life is bright again, nothing remotely dark.

    Thank you for reading.

Wow. I love this. It's honest and so well-expressed - I like how you have the rhythm right on every line! I've tried writing or try to help me through troubles and it really does help to express I find. I like how it finishes positively and offers hope - it'd be nice to read back when feeling low x

Really expressive and I like it that it was sorrowful from the beginning but ended positively.
I actually know someone who has an interest in writing poems and she randomly entered a few online competitions and won a trip to Asia. May be you could try that too!

Appreciate it guys, the positive feedback is overwhelming. I knew I could write decent poems, but I didn't know people would rate them so highly.
