how do i check a mole for cancer without the GP

I dont know why but the gps seem to be really annoying in this country i mean i'm working 9-5 and they are always shut, and they arent really helpfull in an appointment yet.

I just want to go to a builkding on my day off give them money to take my mole and check it.

Thanks and is there a etter country to live in where they have a doctor that works weekends

You could go to an NHS walk in centre

You could make a private appointment - GPs are all too happy to oblige when there's money involved.

Thanks guys, maybe the nhs walk in centre if they are open sats:p: or bupa:smile:

GPs don't conclusively check - they may run bloods then refer you to an oncologist if they believe you need further consultation and tests.

I mean i used to work saturdays in retail, i dont know why doctors who get paid loads can't do weekends :P

Unless your GP has a dermatology special interest, all they will do is refer you to dermatology.

Generally, if you are worried a mole might be malignant melanoma, take a picture of it now, so you can show GP/dermatologist, and demonstarte change. Also, 'rate' it on the ABCDEF scale:
A - asymmetry
B - border - irregular?
C - colour - 3 or more different colours?
D - diameter - is it bigger than the rubber at the end of a pencil?
E - elevation - if it has become raised when it used to be flat
F - funny looking mole?

Don't forget that it is normal for moles to change, but it's always better to be safe than sorry...

Surely the company you work for will let you have time off to go to the doctor? I'm pretty sure they have to, and even if they don't, can't you take a morning/afternoon off for it?

Book an appointment, then get the time off work. They can't stop you being off for half a day if you're always in work, especially if you seriously think it is unusual.
If it is unusual you will get a referral to the hospital, so you'll probably have to have another half day off - but you'll still get paid for your short time off, it's not a big problem.
I had a really weird mole and I got referred to the dermatologist who also checked the rest of my moles at the same time. They will tell you what to watch out for and to come back if there are any changes.

Yeah i'll try and go to the nhs walkin if its open sats:smile: But i guess i need to book it off.

I wonder if outher countries are shut on weekends like ours.:p:

You should be able to get the time off without having to take it out of your leave. I've been to the docs a couple of times and on my leave form there's an option for doctors/dentists appointments which means I can leave site without using my holiday up.

who ever it was who gave me a neg rep about being frustrated about gp's not working on a saturday, well i know my gp isnt open and i was it a very dizzy state, i walked to the a+e explained how bad it was and she still said wait 2 hours i mean flippin eck, id rather go home because i dont like hospitals.

Doctors are so hard to get hold of, that's all i meant. maybe most of them do do a good job but previous to the a+e i did go to the doctor and he said it was nothing and talked down to me, he's probably one of the bad eggs but still.

Anyone got a pos rep for me because i dont like looking bad as i dont mean to be bad

im covered in moles and theyre horrible, all my doctor did was what i do all the time - she just checked to see they werent raised or big and she told me to take pics of all of them so that next time i go for a check up I can show them and they can see if they've changed. mabe if u dont have time to see doc you should take pics and check urself if you think theyve changed.

this is true i have several on my back i saw a doctor and they referred me to dermatology at the hospital i had to go back every 6 months but thats stopped now im clear!

they told me i could make a digital pic diary evry week take a pic of the mole or have someone do it for you if it changes colour shape or size then it could indicate cancer! it might work
