    Hi Folks,

I need some help or maybe just a little guidance.

Here's the plan - I would like to do a BA in Creative Writing and English Literature.

Here's the problem - Although I liked the view from the school window it has now garnished me with having to do an Access to HE for a year.

Here's my wonderment - What is the best Access to HE course to do for an English Degree??? Education Studies or Combined Studies.

That's all I need, someone to guide me with their own advice.

Acceptance into the Jedi Council is also one step closer.

    Thank you in advance.

    Hi Tony,

I can only give input from the access course i'm doing. I've almost finished Access to English Literature, History and Social Sciences (choice between Psychology and Sociology). This course can definitely get you into a good university studying Creative Writing and English Literature or a wide variety of other subjects. Just from my class of 15ish people some are studying History, English lit, Archaeology, Politics and international relations etc (there are more). However there really has been little to no focus on creative writing on the course itself which i imagine may be a draw back for you. Hopefully someone else may know of another course that may have more of an emphasis on creative writing specifically. Hope this helps.

You need to check with the unis you're considering. Some will specify a particular "flavour" of Access course that they want for each course that accepts them. Some will consider professional experience or look for other types of qualification.

For example, UEA has a well-regarded Creative Writing department but rather than stating that it looks for x/y/z qualifications, it advises mature students to contact them to discuss their particular circumstances.

In this situation, there isn't a one-size-fits-all answer. Don't assume that an Access course is required or desirable, unless you've confirmed that with each uni that you'd like to consider.
