I know this is so stupid and right now even I'm telling myself, "You idiot, you really have got yourself in a right mess, and have nobody else to blame but yourself!".
I have applied to do civil engineering at university and I have got my offers back and I've already picked my insurance and my firm choices. But it's really started to hit home that civil engineering (or any engineering for that matter) is not what I want to do. I've already taken a year out and I am currently working at an engineering company until mid July. After witnessing everyone here do their jobs I have come to the conclusion that I really couldn't take doing what they do- day in, day out, nine till five, until whenever the flaming heck it is that my generation will be allowed to retire (if we ever are!). My passion lies in English, and I've known this for a long time (if you take into consideration I write creatively, every single day since forever). I did take English Language as an A-level , and actually got my best mark in it as I didn't resit it in January, instead doing resits in Maths and Physics (I'll tell you I probably need not have bothered as I did no better, and somehow I continue to build up some sort of false hope that I'll do better in June).
I've put it off for so long and now its all seems to be crashing down like numerous anvils around me. I sat by and listened to my teacher's, friends and mother ask me if this is REALLY what I want to do, and every time I shrugg and nodded my head like bloody Churchill the ,bloody, nodding dog.
My brother went through the exact same thing but never spoke up about it; he went to university and did an engineering course, abosolutely hated it, couldn't hack it and ended up being kicked out due to bad results, left with no degree and bucket loads of debt. I sure you, I do not want to have the same experience to my name. I supposed that has something to do with my choice as my Dad, being the proud engineer, he is had hopes that atleast one of his four children would follow his lead and as my borther didn't, I automatically filled the shoes. I know that was idiotically stupid of me.
I've already taken a year out and I don't think I could do another. My top choice is Swansea and I do absolutley love it down there. I've looked at their English Language and Lit course and its perfect. I was just wondering if there was any way in which I could change my mind without having to wait ANOTHER year to apply?
Thank you for your help as it will be greatly appreicated.

    Yours,
A silly fool who always leaves things too late.

Do you have the right A levels for the English course? What would you do after it? What kind of English course? For Literature you will need A level Eng Lit usually. All questions you should be asking yourself right now.

If you have the right A levels then you can ask the university if they will switch your course. However, English is generally very competitive so it could already be full, in which case you will have to go into clearing or reapply next year.
