I know for my course (mechanical engineering) a high number of students go on and do a placement year where they work in industry for a year, normally after year 2.

I was wondering if any current students could give their experience of others who do placement years. How common our people going on these placements in different courses?

Do a lot of people at the university do placement years?

I think placements are offered for pretty much every course and take-up is just over 50%? Others may correct me though.

    Hi 101101!

About 65% of Bath students choose to do a placement or a study year abroad.

Have you seen Mechanical Engineering's placement webpage (http://www.bath.ac.uk/mech-eng/under...e/placements)? There are a couple of film clips in which students talk about their placement experiences.

Another interesting place to find out more about placements in general is the Humanities and Social Sciences placement blogs: http://blogs.bath.ac.uk/hss-placements/. They're not in your department/faculty but they give a really interesting insight to students' experiences on placement.

Hope these help a bit - let me know if I can provide you with more specific answers about anything.
