    Hello everybody,

I wanted to ask your opinion on reporting what seems to be a typical MoneyGram type renting scam on Gumtree: I am being asked to transfer myself money via MoneyGram but scan in the receipt for "the landlord" to "prove my financial capabilities", which as I understand would enable the scammer to withdraw the money.

Now, I haven´t actually been actually scammed yet and it is rather likely that whoever is trying to pull this stunt isn´t situated in the UK.

However, I would at least want to do something. Obviously I will report this to Gumtree, but if you know of any other place I would appreciate an answer.

I have also thought that perhaps I should try and contact the people actually associated with the property allegedly being rented out, perhaps the information is of some use to them.

The property is in Scotland by the way.

What can I do? What would you do?

Doubt there's much that can practically be done above and beyond what you have already said, though Trading Standards may be interested.

This is is getting rather amusing, I've just received a nearly identical e-mail with another too-good-to-be-true offer.

An interesting sidenote: these "landlords" seem take great insult at the prospect of having someones relative or friend check the place out.
